Exploring the Mind Speaker Series 2017-2018
Dr. Dima Amso, Associate Professor of Psychology at Brown University, will give a special seminar titled "Synergistic Attention and Learning Processes in Early Development".
Abstract
I will discuss a developmental model of visual attention that posits that attention is an emergent computational property of neurons along a rostra-caudal cortical axis. Within this framework, visual development is a catalyst for the development of both spatial and object-based visual attention processes. I will offer data that suggests that both feedforward and feedback networks govern attentional function beginning early in postnatal life, situating learning and memory as either influenced by attention (feedforward) or influencing attention (feedback).
