Major advance in understanding the microcircuitry of cognition

CMB researchers Andre Bastos and Ron Mangun, working with collaborators in Germany and the UK, have published a paper in Neuron that makes a major advance in understanding the microcircuitry of cognition.  An essential element of cognition is the ability to make predictions, and this paper shows how the microstructure of cortical columns implements the pattern of connectivity needed for predictive coding.
